Check the “spine” of the handle to look for a release or something that is holding/licking the blade open. The bolster (top metal bit before the blade) swivels, this lifts up the locking mechanism where the blade is hooked to the backspring, so , swivel the bolster with your thumb to raise the backspring, and close the blade with your other hand. Hold the back of the blade (away from the edge) with the other hand. It at times requires a stronger tug than you might have thought to.
